Time moves at the same rate for everyone, yet certain seconds stand apart — the one where a new life begins, where two people decide to spend their lives together, where years of work resolve into a single word: yes.
2026 has exactly 31,536,000 of these seconds. Each one can be owned by exactly one person, for exactly one dollar. Your name and message live on that second's permanent page — quietly, without advertisement, for as long as this site exists.
Choose any second of 2026 in your local timezone. Enter your name and an optional message. Pay $1 via our secure payment processor (Polar). That second becomes yours — its page shows only your name, your message, and the exact timestamp.
No two people can own the same second. Once it's gone, it's gone.
We sell seconds, not ads. This page will stay up. We have no incentive to take it down — each second sold is a one-time $1 transaction with no ongoing cost to us. The pages are static by nature. We intend to keep them.
Can two people own the same second?
No. Each second can only ever have one owner. The moment a payment completes, that second is permanently taken.
What if I pick the wrong second?
All sales are final. Time is non-refundable. Choose carefully.
Can I buy a second for someone else?
Yes — enter their name (or both your names) in the name field. You can write whatever you like. The message is yours to compose.
What timezone should I use?
Use the timezone where the moment happened — or where you were when it happened. The second's permanent page will display your timestamp in that timezone.
Do I get a receipt?
Polar (our payment processor) sends a receipt by email. Your permanent page is at own1second.com/s/[epoch], and it will remain there.
What if the site goes down?
We intend this to be permanent. If circumstances change, we will provide advance notice and a data export of all claims.
